The Native Plant & Landscape Restoration Nursery sponsors teaching and research opportunities in landscape architecture, ecological design, landscape ecology, restoration ecology, and sustainability studies. The Nursery provides native plant materials, greenhouse, field research sites, and laboratory facilities at the E.H. Steffen Teaching & Research Center on the edge of the Pullman campus to support teaching and research efforts of faculty and students.
Teaching Activities
The Nursery and its field facilities are available for faculty and students to use in courses, workshops, demonstrations, and other educational activities. When fully developed, the associated botanical garden will provide opportunities to observe both individual plant species and assemblages of plants on a 100+ acre portion of the campus landscape.
Native Plant Research & Ecological Restoration
The Nursery and its developing botanical gardens, native plant collections, and associated field sites are available for both on-campus and off-campus research. In addition, student and faculty researchers conduct a wide variety of ecological studies on western landscapes for federal and state agencies and other sponsors:
Biodiversity Conservation
Ecological Design & Restoration
Insect Ecology & Pollinator Relationships
Landscape Dynamics & Ecosystem Management
Riparian Corridor, Stream, & Wetland Restoration
Social Science & Restoration Planning
Wildlife Ecology & Restoration of Threatened & Endangered Species
